Below is information that may answer many of the questions you have related to COVID-19. Please read all of the information below before calling the Redfern Health Center COVID-19 phone line, as we're currently experiencing a very high call volume and your question may be answered here.
Isolation and Quarantine
- A positive test result indicates the presence of the COVID-19 virus. The appropriate response is to isolate for 10 days. At the end of 10 days, if you do not have a fever and your symptoms are improving, you should no longer be contagious to others. You will need to be cleared to return to campus activities. This can be completed by Redfern staff (please refer to the "Exiting Isolation or Quarantine" tab below).
- Someone from Redfern Health Center should contact you. This can sometimes take a little time, as multiple positive results are often reported together, and staff must work through a list.
- If you live on campus, someone from Housing will contact you with further instructions after you have discussed recommendations with Redfern. Alternatively, you can reach out to your RA for advice/information while awaiting a call from Redfern. View Housing's Isolation and Quarantine Checklist to start gathering items you'll need.
- If you isolate in university isolation housing, you will be provided with food, trash services and other basic needs.
- If you live off campus, you can isolate in your living space if appropriate. You should isolate in a private space without your roommates. This means you should have a private bed and bath and not access the communal spaces during isolation. Your roommates or friends can deliver food to your door if necessary.
- If you desire to not isolate on campus or in your off-campus residence, you may choose to return home. If you are an on-campus resident, please inform your RA you will be leaving.
- Many people who test positive for COVID-19 do not have symptoms. Your university testing determines your access to campus. If you test positive, you will be required to isolate appropriately. No additional negative diagnostic testing will excuse you from this requirement.
- EXCEPTION – if you previously tested positive for COVID-19 in the 90 days prior to this positive result, you will not be required to isolate again. You must be able to provide proof in the form of a verifiable laboratory report.
- Expect a call from a contact tracer – please cooperate with these efforts as they are key to the success of efforts to control the spread of COVID-19 in the Clemson community.
- You should notify your academic instructors of your absence through the Notification of Absence system.
- If you are a Bridge to Clemson student, please contact your instructors regarding your assignments.
- If you're concerned about a student, file a CARE Network Report to help connect them with resources that will support them.
- If you have non-urgent medical needs, contact Redfern Health Center.
- If you have a medical emergency, call 911 and inform them of your positive COVID-19 status.
- You can self-identify as someone exposed to COVID-19 to your RA or to Redfern Health Center.
- You may get a call from a contact tracer to inform you that you have been exposed. They will not share the identity of the positive case.
- Exposure is defined as being within 6 feet of a known positive case of COVID-19 for 15 or more minutes. Sharing a household with a positive case also is considered exposure.
- Exposure is managed with quarantine for 14 days after the most recent date of exposure.
- If you live in on-campus housing, you can be moved to designated quarantine housing. In some cases, based on housing type, it may be appropriate for individuals to quarantine in their residence. View Housing's Isolation and Quarantine Checklist to start gathering items you'll need.
- If you quarantine in university isolation housing, you will be provided with food, trash services and other basic needs.
- It is recommended that you get tested at 7+ days after exposure. You can call Redfern to schedule testing: 864-656-1541.You can also get tested at other locations on the main campus and at MUSC and DHEC testing sites. If your 7-day period falls on the weekend, you can go early the next week.
- Negative testing DOES NOT release you early from quarantine. You must complete all 14 days of quarantine after exposure.
- EXCEPTION – if you previously tested positive for COVID-19 in the 90 days prior to this exposure, you will not be required to quarantine. You must be able to provide proof in the form of a verifiable laboratory report.
- You should notify your academic instructors of your absence through the Notification of Absence system.
- If you are a Bridge to Clemson student, please contact your instructors regarding your assignments.
- If you're concerned about a student, file a CARE Network Report to help connect them with resources that will support them.
If you become symptomatic, please call Redfern at 864-656-3571 to speak with a nurse.
- At the completion of your 10-day isolation period or 14-day quarantine period, you will need to be cleared to return to campus activities. This can be completed by Redfern staff.
- Expect an email for release from isolation/quarantine on the 10th or 14th day after your positive test result. If you are in Clemson University Isolation/Quarantine Housing, you may also receive a phone call. Do not make any plans to do anything, including attend class, on the day you should be cleared.
- Once you have completed isolation due to a positive test, you will not have to be tested again for 90 days after the date of positive test collection. At 91 days, the process starts over and you go back into the testing pool.
- If you are a Bridge to Clemson student, please complete the following immediately to ensure you are eligible to attend classes:
- Complete the Tri-County COVID-19 Issues and Support Form
- Complete the Clemson University Self-Assessment Tool
My roommates are completing their quarantine in-space in my suite/apartment. Am I allowed to return after my 10-day isolation when they are required to quarantine for 14 days? Yes, you may return to your regular assignment after you have completed your 10-day period of isolation and received medical clearance from Redfern. Your return to the suite or apartment does not introduce new infection, as you are deemed at that time to no longer be infectious.
I qualified to quarantine in my regular room or apartment, but I chose to go home. Can I return to campus before 14 days is over to quarantine in my on-campus suite or apartment? Remaining in one location for quarantine is advised. However, you would not be prohibited from returning to campus. Please inform Clemson Home that you are planning to return so we can begin meal delivery at your on-campus space. Email details to temphousing@clemson.edu.
